SHANKSVILLE, Pa. — A busload of Akron-area students were in Shanksville Friday wearing “Flight 93” T-shirts with images of the 40 passengers and crew who died when their plane crashed in the Pennsylvania hills 14 years ago.

Jessica Brenneman, a seventh grader at Green Middle School near Akron, was surprised to learn the crash was in the state where she and her family vacation.

“I never realized that it happened here,” said Jessica, 12. “This is where we come for vacation and we have family members who live in Pennsylvania. I see the people here who share their thoughts about their personal losses and it is very moving.”

The seventh and eighth graders from Green had watched a movie aboutĀ Flight 93 as they rode through the Shanksville countryside on their way to the dedication ceremony of the Flight 93 National Memorial Visitor Center.
